What is a Parole Consideration Date and What Does it Mean?

I am often asked by clients seeking Parole in Alabama what the entry on their Department of Corrections time sheet labeled “Parole Consideration Date” means. The answer isn’t as simple as it may appear.

Basically this date is the date that the Department of Corrections (DOC) has estimated that the person’s parole eligibility begins. Importantly, this date does not mean that there will be a parole hearing on that date. In fact, a person’s actual parole hearing could be a year or more from the Parole Consideration Date, depending on several factors like victim notification and the Board’s case load.

The date listed on a DOC time sheet is a starting point, but is not the ending point for a person waiting for a hearing.
